Hi Noah, I strongly agree with your comments on journaling. I wrote my own take on the practice here: https://howaboutthis.substack.com/p/the-information-that-wont-fit-inside

I especially liked your exploration of how journaling makes you feel, augmenting the feelings as they decorate the page. I have similar experiences when I’m journaling, too.

I have been journaling for years. Initially it was just a fishing journal, but maybe 5 years ago I added a daily health and diet focus and maybe a year ago I added my daily thoughts. I generally do it first thing in the morning. I find it very beneficial.

Thank you for sharing! I’ve found that morning journaling helps me orient my day in a way that I miss when I skip or take breaks.

I have been contemplating getting back to journaling and this has helped me decide to do it. I have many of journals from the years that did journal. After awhile it started to become a chore. I would frantically write everything from the day just to get it done and checked off my list. For me it will take some discipline to settle into journaling with a different mindset but I think I'm ready for that. Plus I can't wait to buy a new journal.

Getting excited to buy a journal is half the fun! I much prefer writing in a physical journal over keeping one digitally.

I am very check-it-off-the-list oriented as well, so finding the balance between being consistent and taking necessary breaks is a constant challenge.

So true Noah. Journaling is the best way I know of to skip the normal progression of thoughts and emotions and pull whatever is in our subconscious right to the surface.

Then we can deal with these ideas proactively instead of reactively. Thanks for sharing!

Becoming proactive is a powerful shift in mentality about our internal lives, and journaling is one effective way to make that shift happen. Thank you for reading!
